Water Safety
Drowning is the leading cause of death for children under the age of 5 in Broward County. For each fatality there are approximately 4 children who were successfully rescued from drowning, many of whom suffer permanent brain damage.
To combat this tragedy, we are actively engaged:
- Promise banner - we are asking all children to sign a promise to never swim alone.
- Safety days - we regularly have children in street clothes jump in the water and practice getting to safety
- Elementary school program - we support a popular elementary school program which discusses water safety
- Promoting infant swimming - we're sharing the importance of having children as young as 4 months learn to swim through gentle instruction with parents in the water with babies.
- SWIM Central - we work with SWIM Central to offer lessons to school age children in need.
SWIM Central is dedicated to preventing childhood drowning by making lessons available to nursery, kindergarten and elementary school children. We are proud to participate in this program under the name Learn 2 Swim. For additional information about this government program, click here.
We are extremely proud to have taught 52,000 children in Broward County through our partnership with the Town of Davie and SWIM Central.
